Usually, I've just worn whatever was plain, inexpensive and low maintenance. When converting to Islam, the same general principal applied in addition to being very loose and adding a headscarf. Throughout the years I've often lamented my lack of personal style.
I have always loved to peruse the Sunday adverts and blindly pick out things I like. When I became more conversant with the internet, I loved to 'shop' online and put whole outfits and shoes in my shopping cart, knowing I would never be able to purchase them. And if I did get them, I could only wear them in the house...and what fun is that? Is it only since coming to terms with my sexuality and the cessation of suppressing myself, even if only mentally, that I began to develop a stronger sense of my personal style. Stronger as in stronger than no sense lol, which is not much. Still something.
Currently I like most of Conv.erse O.ne St.ar line at Ta.r.get. I plan to shop up to my, well, ankles when I get there. I'd say eyeballs but let's be real, my pocket is not that powerful. I have a future with my baby to save for. So I'm counting this as sort of an investment. The Man has come some ways towards accepting that I am not wholeheartedly the Muslim I once was, and it seems others are picking up on that too*. Anywho, back to COS. I'm definitely picking up a few things from there.
In terms of what kind of lesbian I am...I really can't say. I don't fit into any sort of box really, and things are pretty much 50/50 all the way with Kay, including the way we dress. I would wear a long skirt any day, all day. They are comfortable and look great on my hips, lol. I have an aversion to wearing men's clothing, but love shopping for them and Kay! But you couldn't talk me into wearing anything other than a low wedge heel. While Kay will wear two inch heels, though not often, and a shorter skirt. Forget about a dress on me. Whatever. I tried the whole jilbab thing, even the cooler looking ones, but it wasn't working for me. at. all. I adore Bette's style on L Word. In Muslim dress (really just long skirt, long sleeve shirt and a scarf) or not, I always tend to dress business casual. On any given day I could walk into an office and not feel out of place at all. I was, however, starting like knee length skirts before I converted.
My sister gave me a girl's polo shirt and I came to like it, although the cap sleeves were a lil to ruffly (if you will) for my taste. I've since bought another fitted polo shirt and love it! The sleeves are straight. I definitely plan to get more. I'm a fan of wide legged jeans! Some bootcut ones have caught my attention as well. I began to prefer sandals after a few weeks here, maybe to do with the warm and hot weather, but I never wore open anything on my feet before then.
Being a financially conversative perso I always hem and haw about whether I realy really need or want to get something before I actually buy it. Sometimes I talk myself out of it and leave it, but end up coming back to buy later (if I'm not too embarrassed)...sometimes just a couple hours later. So, in light of this, I will probably post what I've actually gotten when I come back. I'm leaving Wednesdaaaay!
Here I come my good old home of the free (kinda)!
Sorry if this post is all over the place, lol. I'm so tangenital sometimes!
*I do not condemn all of Islam and will talk more about me as a Muslim and Islam another day. I'm happy to answer questions, as long as there' s no bashing, as I'm pretty well educated about it.

ReplyDeleteI love jeans that fit in the hips but are wider in the leg! I will rock skinnies though, but only when I feel the need to show off my assssets!
